Pernambuco announces R$ 3 billion thermoelectric

The government of Pernambuco announced the construction of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Thermal Power Plant (ETE) that will be installed in the Suape Industrial Complex area. The announcement was made last Wednesday (13).

The investment of R$ 3 billion will be made by the U.S. group New Fortress Energy. The new plant is estimated to generate about 2,000 jobs in the region, according to the state government. The thermoelectric plant will have total installed capacity to generate 1.3 gigawatts (GW) of energy, and the plant is expected to go into operation as early as November this year, occupying an area of 16.5 hectares within the Suape Complex.

The project also includes an LNG regasification terminal, in addition to the deployment of about 8 kilometers of pipelines between the gas terminal and the thermal terminal.
