The government launched on Tuesday (23) The new gas market program, which will bring together measures to reduce the price of natural gas. The expectation of the economic team is that the program contributes to the resumption of the economic growth of the country.
The program has been formatted for months by technicians led by the Minister of Economics, Paulo Guedes, and mines and energy, Bento Albuquerque. The launch was made by President Jair Bolsonaro in an event at the Palácio do Planalto.
On the solemnity of launching the program, the President of the Republic also signed a decree establishing the Monitoring Committee for the opening of the Natural gas market. The Committee, according to the government, will coordinate actions and activities to break the monopoly of oil and natural gas.
The Government intends to ensure access by private companies to the natural gas flow and transport infrastructure. With this, it hopes to make the price of natural gas more competitive. The goal is that the value pass from the current US $14 per million BTU (British thermal unit) to US $6 or US $7.
Today most of the supply chain and transport of the product is dominated by Petrobras.
"This price level can be even lower in an open and competitive market, boosting the increase in the large-scale consumption of natural gas and the resumption of the industrialization process," says technical note from the Committee responsible for promoting competition In the natural gas market.
