Oil royalties to rise to 25% of Rio's revenue

The economy in the state of Rio de Janeiro is already under a lot of influence from oil royalties. Cities in the Lakes Region, such as Campos and Macaé, have great space in their revenues from this resource. With a new wave of exploration of pre-salt resources, the state must benefit and maintain its dependence on oil and gas activity. According to the budget forecasts, in the coming years royalties will further increase its presence in total revenues in Rio. The share will increase from 20% in 2019 to 25% between 2021 and 2023.

However, there are questions about how these resources will be distributed. The injunction that suspended the effects of the Royalties Law will be judged by the Supreme Court (STF) in December. The text foresees a fall in revenues for producing states and an increase for non-producers.
