Valve intends to innovate oil market

With funding from the European Union, a team of engineers from Norway, Germany, the United Kingdom and Sweden teamed up around a new project to revolutionize the oil industry: REVIVAL (REVveible Inflow control VALve). In order to extract more oil from the reservoirs, researchers have developed the AICV valve, which aims to control the reversible flow in the oil wells, being able to hold the water and the gas from the pipes, thus releasing only the oil.

Few people are aware, but the vast majority of wells can only extract less than a third of the available oil from the offshore oil field. This is because, along the pipeline, large amounts of water and gas rise, causing some of the platforms to permanently light a pilot flame on the flare in order to burn the fluid.

The piece, which is 6 centimeters in diameter and 3 centimeters thick, has already been tested and approved successfully. In initial tests, the prototype showed an increase in oil recovery between 50% and 80%, depending on the well. What can be an innovation in the offshore market, optimizing the work and time of oil extraction by the oil companies.
